Top Piracy Threats Reported to the US Government

Hollywood and Netflix have reported top piracy threats to the US Government.

According to reports, dozens of pirate websites, IPTV services, torrent sites, hosting providers, streaming apps, and other entities have been submitted to the US Government by anti-piracy organizations.

The Motion Pictures Association (MPA) and Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) have submitted their annual “Notorious Markets” report to the US Trade Representative (USTR).

US Trade Representative (USTR).

This “Notorious Markets” report lists hundreds of pirate operations that the MPA claims are impacting US jobs.

The MPA is also urging certain Internet services to take responsibility for deterring online piracy. A spokesperson from the MPA stated the following:

“All stakeholders in the internet ecosystem – including hosting providers, DNS providers, cloud services, advertising networks, payment processors, social networks, and search engines – should actively seek to reduce support for notoriously infringing sites.”

  1. I believe there would be less need to use unverified streaming services if the greedy so-called legal streaming services like FuboTV, YouTube, Philo, etc. would offer their products at reasonable prices; instead of the continual fleecing of the populous. I am in no way condoning illegal activities. But these companies are heartless they are greedy and they only value the extremely high profits that they are generating.

    1. Damaze, I agree 100% with your comment. It has been my gospel for years about the greed of the legal streaming services. I too do not condone illegal activities, but it seems as if we are being forced into their world of expensive service. Why aren’t they offering the same service as those that have been identified as pirates? The answer is just as what you stated, greed.

I was using TyphoonTV for nearly 1 1/2 years before it was shut down. When I first got on it, they told me it was legal and I could access the site without a VPN even though I had one, I didn’t need the VPN because it was legal. I got my son and daughter to get on it also and then a couple of weeks ago it went down. Reasons were either ACE or FCC, not clear on the reason but nevertheless, what was purported to be a legal IPTV streaming service was not. My credit card company suggested filing fraud claims to get my money back, their suggestion and not mine. I’ll go along with it because I thought I was paying for something that was legal.

    1. Come on Mike, any of us who use an IPTV service such as Typhoon, know that the content your watching for the price were paying is well below the market. However if your on a fixed income and enjoy Sports, movies, or shows from the U.K., and Australia like I do, you take your chance. Lose a little cash on Typhoon, so what. For everyone that shuts down, there are 10 more replacing it. Try another and you’re still ahead of the game. Take into consideration that you probably saved over a thousand dollars in cable fees and subscriptions in your 1 1/2 years with Typhoon. But please don’t tell us you thought it was all above board.

  3. Like I have always said…if the major LEGAL players dropped the price to something most people can afford or are willing to pay they would have more subscribers than they could imagine. The law says it’s legal and completely free to use an antenna. But it’s illegal to pay for the same things you can watch for free. Of course antennas won’t work for everyone. Lots of factors involved. Advertisers still advertise. Still have to watch commercials. Why would ABC CBS etc complain when its perfectly legal to NOT PAY when using an antenna. ? The logic eludes me. Happy streaming !!

    1. Mike Bornholdt

I agree with you Steve on the antenna subject. I have an outside antenna because Hurricane Ida took down our cable system and internet. I put up an outside antenna 20 feet and now pick up 79 local channels and don’t worry about cable channels. Almost any cable channel now you can pick up by having their app, which is a pain, to change apps to change channels. Still it’s all about the almighty dollar companies wanting more and trying to force gov’t to help them make more money by lawful means.

Your assessment of not wanting me to think it was all above board is unwarranted, in other words, bug off! I took their word for it when they said it was legal and I didn’t have to use a VPN. The only reason I had a VPN anyway was to watch a MLB team that I follow and being 330 miles and 5 1/2 hours from their stadium they deemed me local, give me a break so I got a VPN after paying full price to watch my team when they were at home. I could watch them when they were on the road but when they were home, I guess they wanted me at the game always so my VPN showed them I was in N Carolina most of the time so I could watch them instead of going to the game. Imagine them thinking I was local that far away…idiots making that rule! I had no reason to think that Typhoon wasn’t legal was the reason I told them I had a VPN, I took their word for it and I’d never involve getting my kids involved in something illegal like that so I know now but not then. Don’t assume anything! You don’t know me or my values!
